SOUTHERN CULTURE ON THE SKIDS
w/ The Great Influence Machine / Clifton Roy & Folkstringer

True to their name, North Carolina's Southern Culture on the Skids offers an affectionate parody of local white-trash trailer-park culture, matching their skewed outlook with a wild, careening brand of rock & roll. SCOTS' music is a quintessentially Southern-fried amalgam of rockabilly, boogie, country, blues, swamp pop, and chitlin circuit R&B, plus a liberal dose of California surf guitar, a hint of punk attitude, and the occasional mariachi horns. Following an early incarnation as a relatively straightforward roots rock outfit, they morphed into a raucous, sleazy, tongue-in-cheek party band obsessed with sex and food; in fact, fried chicken became a crucial part of their live performances, whether it was used in eating contests or tossed into the audience.

CASIOTONE FOR THE PAINFULLY ALONE
w/ Ill Ease / Carta Marina

eing on the emotionally fragile side, Arab Strap comparisons are inevitable for CFTPA, but that would be over-oversimplifying things. While no single track stands out, this has wide stylistic range and a sparse feel that works fantastically well: it never once bored me. Owen Marshall is presented to the world by his PR sheet as your everyday bedroom electronic Mozart, and he looks bloody shy. I actually bet he has it away with loads of girls.

BANG! BANG!
w/ Welcome To Ashley

escribing their sound as "sex rock," Chicago-based indie rock trio Bang! Bang! has enough raw energy and frantic rhythms to start a erotic revolution all by themselves, though their hot-wired blasts of chock-a-block guitar and crashing drums aren't exactly the stuff of the quiet storm. Bang! Bang! was founded in 2002 when guitarist and vocalist Jack Flash met bassist and vocalist Gretta Fine; depending on when and where they tell the story, they either bumped into one another at a party or Flash spotted Fine while she was roller-skating in her lingerie. Either way, the two hit it off as a couple and decided to channel some of their mojo into music.

TIM REYNOLDS & TR3
w/ Van Ghost

Profoundly talented guitarist Tim Reynolds has been cutting killer riffs and spooling rock & roll with funk and soul since the age of 12. Throughout the '90s he has slowly become recognized as one of the impeccable, highly skilled acoustic musicians in the areas of jazz guitar, bass, piano, sitar, mandolin, violin, and various instruments of ethnic percussion. He is an underrated master. Born in Germany, Reynolds was a military brat who spent his young life traveling across the United States, eventually settling in Charlottesville, VA. He joined various psychedelic rock groups, playing heavily into his influences of Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin. He formed TR3 in the late '80s, and later expanded his sound to the likes of Bob Marley, Nine Inch Nails, and Marilyn Manson. But Reynolds' biggest claim to fame came with his collaborations with Dave Matthews Band. He has guested on all Dave Matthews Band releases and joined them on countless tours across the globe.

LOCAL H

Having achieved mainstream success with their second album, As Good As Dead (Polygram), and fueled by the multi-format hit single "Bound For The Floor," Local H always has continued to bring the noise. Alongside writing, recording, and releasing records (including 1998's critically acclaimed Pack Up The Cats and last year's punk rock workout, The No Fun E.P.), Local H has maintained a remarkable touring schedule - and an incredibly loyal fan base to match - having "hit the road" with the likes of Stone Temple Pilots, Veruca Salt, Cheap Trick, C.O.C., Chevelle, and Burning Brides, to name a few.

CEALED KASKET
w/ Werewolf

Cealed Kasket's live show is a frenetic medieval horror opera set in the dark ages, a presentation of barbaric hedonistic rock and roll so powerful it would reduce Alice Cooper to prison rape bait. The Onion called it " Over-the-top mock-metal played with enough death-rock affectation to make Marilyn Manson look like the master of subtlety." Equal parts comedy and tragedy, their rabid fan base comes not only for the music but for the theatrical experience-to be a warrior, to be a part of the battle, to join their heroes onstage with swords raised and blood boiling. Drinking contests, shouting matches, special effects, knights, wenches and backstage sluttin maximize audience participation. Special Effects by Bad Dog Efx ( LucasFilm Ltd/ 20Th Century Fox / Universal Pictures), and medieval set design by David Krause (Red Moon Theatre) set the tone for onstage dragon slaying debauchery as the crowds roar aids the band in pulling the proverbial and literal sword from the stone.

LOVELIKEFIRE

Ask any member of LoveLikeFire about why the band has become so strong, so quickly, and the answer will sound a bit like a confession: The music is a compulsion, they say. An inevitability. An obsession. In 2008, the four San Franciscans intend to pour that passion into a full-length debut disc. For now, though, LoveLikeFire is doing what it's always done: Playing shows wherever and whenever. Writing songs constantly. Clinging strongly to the idea that it's better to be good than lucky.

FOUR YEAR STRONG
w/ I Am The Avalanche / This Is Hell / A Loss For Words

Similar to contemporaries Set Your Goals, the guys of Four Year Strong own an obvious love of bands like Lifetime, Gorilla Biscuits, and New Found Glory, which ultimately helped them bring to life an aggressive and melody-riddled combination of hardcore and pop-punk upon their formation while high school students in Worchester, MA. The lineup of vocalists/guitarists Dan O'Connor and Alan Day, bassist Joe Weiss, drummer Jake Massucco, and synth player Josh Lyford was cemented sometime around 2003, though a form of the band had already been playing together for a few years prior. Following the appearance of two self-released EPs, Four Year Strong ultimately signed a deal with New Jersey-based imprint I Surrender Records. Their debut full-length, Rise or Die Trying, was issued on the label in September 2007; tour dates with groups like the Starting Line, Valencia, and From First to Last kept them on the road for the remainder of the year.

HIGH ON FIRE
w/ Bison b.c. [metal blade] / Loose Lips Sink Ships

Guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike, bass player George Rice, and drummer Des Kensel formed High on Fire in 1999, following the collapse of Pike's previous band, doom metal titans Sleep. But while Sleep had built their fame on impossibly slothful tunes and copious weed consumption, High on Fire's first release, The Art of Self Defense, displayed a far more aggressive though still fantasy-themed style of heavy metal. Released to mildly enthusiastic reviews, the album's prospects suffered from label Man's Ruin imminent bankruptcy, and it wasn't until High on Fire landed on grindcore powerhouse Relapse Records for their second album, 2002's devastating Surrounded By Thieves, that their abundant promise was rewarded. Extensive touring and an ever-increasing fan base followed, so that by the time they unleashed their third release, Blessed Black Wings, in early 2005 (introducing new bassist Joe Preston [ex-Thrones and Melvins]), High on Fire had earned their place as one of the most widely respected heavy metal outfits on the planet.

PELICAN
w/ Suicide Note / Head Of Skulls

The secretive instrumental art metal outfit Pelican was formed in Chicago by guitarists Trevor de Brauw and Laurent Lebec, with bassist Larry Herweg and his sibling drummer, Bryan. Owing a great debt to pioneering forefathers Neurosis and often compared to Boston's nearly as influential Isis (minus the vocals, naturally), Pelican coincidentally also found a home at Isis mastermind Aaron Turner's Hydra Head Records. After making their debut with an eponymous four-song EP in 2003, Pelican expanded their epic, otherworldly trance-metal to continent-sized movements with 2003's critically acclaimed Australasia album and followed it with 2004's The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw. After nonstop touring, playing in clubs, small halls, and mammoth festivals, the quartet took a much-deserved break. They returned to the studio in 2006 and released City of Echoes in June 2007, followed by the live CD/DVD After the Ceiling Cracked later that December.

Not only is Andreas Kapsalis quickly building his reputation as the most important torch bearer in the tradition of the one-man guitar army since Michael Hedges left his legacy with the music world, he’s also raising the bar for the 21st century film score; a composer who uses his idiosyncratic style to create an impressonable perspective on the silver screen. With the release of the Andreas Kapsalis Trio’s self-titled album, Kapsalis consummates the alliance between eight-fingered guitar virtuosity and outstanding melodic theme and variation. This album also helps to tell the story of an unusual musical journey. For Kapsalis, this journey began by accident.

REVEREND HORTON HEAT
w/ Nashville Pussy / Backyard Tire Fire

Undeniably, The Reverend Horton Heat, aka Jim Heath, is the biggest, baddest, grittiest, greasiest, greatest rocker that ever piled his hair up and pounded the drinks down. Without question, for all of his outlandish antics, blistering stage performances and legendary musical prowess, the one thing The Rev always gets asked about is the story behind his unusual and rather clerical moniker. "Well, there used to be this guy who ran this place in Deep Ellum, Texas who used to call me Horton- my last name is Heath," says The Rev. "Anyway, this guy hired me and right before the show he goes, 'Your stage name should be Reverend Horton Heat! Your music is like gospel'... and I thought it was pretty ridiculous. So I'm up there playing and after the first few songs, people are saying, 'Yeah, Reverend!' What's really funny is that this guy gave up the bar business, and actually became a preacher! Now he comes to our shows and says, 'Jim, you really should drop this whole Reverend thing.'"

He's shared the stage with Guster, Rusted Root, Michael Galbicki, Butch Walker, Matt Wertz, Stroke 9, The Violent Femmes, Fountains of Wayne, Vertical Horizon, Will Hoge, Stephen Kellog and The Sixers, Willy Porter, Freddy Jones Band, Brian Vanderark, Rhett Miller of the Old 97s, and Carbon Leaf to name a few.
